Fiber optic cables have made it possible for telecommunications companies to bring faster service and greater bandwidth directly to subscribers. However, before subscribers can enjoy the benefits of fiber optics, providers need to install the cables properly, which can be a challenging and time-consuming task.

If your company currently builds, expands, maintains or connects subscribers to fiber networks, you need efficient ways to install and terminate fiber optic cables. One of the best ways to increase efficiency and decrease installation costs is to ensure your technicians have access to the quality fiber optic installation tools they need to get the job done.

When working on fiber optic systems, having the right toolset will give you an edge and allow you to serve your customers better. Fiber optic systems are tricky, and using the right equipment can help to prevent problems and keeps operations cost-efficient and safe. With proper planning and the right tools, you can prepare for any fiber optic repairs you'll need to make.

Fiber Optic Repair Kits for Any Job

When working with fiber optics in the field, technicians must use the specific cable connector tools and materials each project calls for. However, attempting to gather and keep track of these tools separately obstructs workflow and occasionally leads to significant delays during installation.

It's important to have all the fiber repair tools necessary for each kind of fiber installation job, and specifically, for each type of cable and connector used in your network. When you choose a fiber optic termination or splicing tool kit, your technicians will know they have the exact tools needed to complete every project properly.

Every fiber optic tool installation kit should include:

  • Fiber strippers: Reliable fiber optic strippers can remove the fiber coating without stripping the fiber itself.
  • Cable slitter: These slitters are used to cut around a cable jacket and remove it.
  • Wire cutters: A good wire cutter makes clean cuts. Replace or repair wire cutters with uneven cuts as soon as possible.
  • Cable cleaner: There are various approaches to cleaning fiber optic cables. The easiest option is using a cleaning pen, where you insert the fiber into the pen and click the pen once to clean. If you are working with stubborn cable debris, such as adhesive, wet fiber optic cleaners may be a better option. There are also alcohol cleaning wipes designed specifically for working with fiber optic systems.
  • Fiber cleaver: Cleavers are used to splice fibers in preparation for attachment to a connector. They come in both pocket and high precision varieties. Pocket varieties can last up to 600 cleaves, while high precision cleavers can last for tens of thousands of cleaves.
  • Visual fault locator: Visual fault locators are battery-powered devices that emit high-powered light through fiber optic cables to make faults visible. When you're ready to test a fiber, attach it to the end of the fault locator and make sure the tester's red light comes out the other side.
  • Crimp tool: Crimping a fiber end is a vital step that protects the fiber and strengthens fiber optic assembly.

What's In a Multilink Fiber Optic Tool Kit?

Multilink's fiber optic termination tool kits provide access to a work surface and facilitate a clean and orderly work site. The tools we include in our fiber optic cable repair kits come in lockable cases efficiently packed for security and easy access in the field.

In our kits, you can find all the tools you need to connect, terminate, splice, repair and install fiber optic cables. These quality tools complement our fiber optic cable to streamline the installation process.

Our wide variety of fiber tool kits accommodate different connector types and cable sizes. You can choose kits compatible with SC, LC or ST connectors and cables sized 250 um, 900 um, 2 mm or 3 mm.

We offer fiber optic repair kits that come with either the Jonard Tools FC-220 pocket cleaver or the Inno V7 high precision cleaver:

  • Jonard Tools FC-220 pocket cleaver: The carbide blade of the pocket cleaver can be used for up to 6,000 cleaves. To use, insert the stripped fiber optic wire into the groove on the leaf spring and line up the device with the cleave length that you would like to use. Score the stripped cable by gently pressing down on the head of the FC-220. After you release the fiber from the device, it will be ready for a connector.
  • Inno V7 high precision cleaver: The Inno V7 provides up to 48,000 sharp, high-quality cleaves and works with 250µm, 900µm, 3.0mm fiber and flat cables. Unlike pocket cleavers, the Inno V7 requires only two steps to operate. Each Inno V7 has an unscrewable blade that can be used to readjust the blade when you need a cleaner cut. The Inno V7 fiber cleaver is compatible with VIEW series fusion splicers.

Each of our fiber optic tool kits also includes:
